Precision crafted lens has approximately 50 lines per inch. Lens is approx. 11" square and is 1/16" thick. Unmounted.

Instructions included to build a 360° stand and frame (frame not included). Frame allows you to use lens as a solar cooker for heating prepared foods, or for other solar experiments.

!!Caution!! A fresnel lens generates high temperatures when used under direct sunlight. Parent or teacher supervision required for educational demonstrations. Make learning safe!

 

 

Fresnel lenses are much thinner than normal lenses but do the same thing - they focus light at a certain distance to become one little spot.

Because they are thinner, they are also much lighter. You find them e.g. on car lights or even as magnifying foils to cover an entire newspaper.

Such a lens can be used to concentrate sunlight for heating or to focus it on small solar panel such that the panel supplies as much power as if it was the size of the lense!

Try it with a panel which you cover with paper except a little spot where you focus the light on.
