Glynn Gorick: : "Garthinty"

The River Tywi springs from the lower part of this painting and flows on its way to Carmarthen Bay on the South Wales coast. There are several different landscapes in this picture with water moving beween them as river, cloud, sea, and ice. Garthinty is the welsh name for 'garden on the sheltered side of a hill', and in this painting it is the name of an old cattle drive station and sheep farm just out of view on a hillside of cambrian granite. Above this section is shown the natural sessile oak forest of the region.
