Solar panels can provide a hospital in remote areas and poor countries with electric power sufficient to run a refrigerator and freezer, microscopes for doing analysis, centrifuges for blood separation, a small lap-top computer for holding records and a diesel back-up unit for 24 hours a day. Thanks to a battery, doctors are able operate at night under electric lights and to cope better with emergency cases.
